For those who knows the very original claypot laksa at depot road might heard some story online about the original auntie that started this fantastic one and only claypot laksa. When the original location was closed, it was relocated to Alexandra Village. The original name of the stall is called Zhen Shan Mei (真善美). However, the currently owners at the stall is not the very original auntie at depot road anymore. Some say the auntie is now paid by the food republic to help them prepare the gravvy only which is sold at Vivocity. Truth is, none of these are as good as the claypot laksa that the auntie used to cook.
Craving for some claypot laksa fix yesterday, decided to pay a visit to Alexandra Village yesterday, but to my dismay, the stall is closed on Monday. So with my craving not fixed, I decided to pay the stall a visit today again.
Is been awhile since I last visited this place, and it seems the price has gone up by 50 cents, at $3.50 / $4.50 / $5.50. I remember the last time when I was here, the portion has also shrinked, so I decided to go for the $5.50 one and added another $1 of cockles :). When it was previously run by the auntie, the $4 is usually good enough for me. I also notice the prawns used now is also different. Previously, when one order $4, you get a medium size prawn. Now at $5.50, I just get 3 small shrimp. That aside, the chicken slices were also very little too, and even the soup or gravvy is not as spicy as the original.
Overall, I would rate the laksa here just average, and I can see the owners trying to cut cost or profit more and lost the original taste. I think the original auntie set the standard very high up there, which quite sad she no longer sells them anymore... sigh....
PS. BTW, I tried the durian juice at the Mr Avocado at the back row after my lunch ($2). Is pretty good, but still find the one at ABC Brickworks better :)

Ya .. I have been eating the laksa make by the auntie too.. But it is a pity that she do not have anyone who can keep the standard or do it even better. Jewish star

yeah...can't seem to find back a claypot laksa as good as the auntie at depot road makes anymore... those around are not really that great that makes you want to go back for more.

Zhen San mei operated a eatery serving claypot dishes at market street carpark. On top of laksa, they served claypot rice and prawn noodle as well, but it close down around 2 months back. The old shop back in those days in depot road serves one of the best laksa.

I've tried the one at depot road a few years ago and the laksa was really very nice, gravy was very thick and tasty, but the one at Vivo city was a bt diluted. So sad that the auntie no longer selling the authentic one.

My last 2 trips there this year was kinda disappointing as well. First time, somewhere near CNY, a lot of seafood was sold out, even the beer! Thought cos we were there late, so the next time we decided to get there earlier, and this time, the crab where sold out!
Service was also very slow and not enuff people to serve the customers.
Food wise, I think price is still ok, but I think the food is not longer as good as when it was less well known.... planning to try senibong next round...

Have not been to Jogoya before, but I've been to the Gonbei opposite. Priced similarly to Jogoya if not wrong, and I thought the service and food was pretty good.

I went with 7 adults and 1 kid, we spent less than $120. I would safely hazard a guess of $18 - $25 per person, depending on how hungry you get. Real value for money for quality food.

Is diagonally opposite Jogoya. Supposedly the quality is better than Jogoya. Price wise, if we convert currency, then Malaysia is cheaper. If we do not convert currency, then Singapore is cheaper. Generally, a japanese buffet in Siingapore is around SGD30+ range.
