White Dog Cafe
It's my 3rd time to this cafe, I like the view there as it's facing the sea and sentosa.
Just went there to celebrate my birthday recently, but not very happy for this time.
After we ordered our food, I ask for some ice water. The staffs bring us 2 bottles of ice water, 5 empty glasses, and just leave them there without pouring it out for us.
Then my hubby and brother went out to get a birthday cake for me, and when they bring the cake back and ask the staffs to keep in the fridge 1st and served it later after the meal, they actually refused to put the cake in the fridge and told my brother that no outside food is allowed & if we wanna cut the cake in their cafe, we need to pay a "Corkage Charge" of $10! So my brother had no choice but to bring in the cake and put on the floor.
It's the 1st time in my life that I heard of corkage charge for cake! To my knowledge, corkage charge is only for wine and liquor as the restaurant need to pay license fee for alcohol. After knowing about it, we're not very happy so I didn't take any pictures of the foods that come later after the soups and salad.
The lobster bisque and chicken soup is quite good, but I dun like the mushroom soup.
The salmon is nicely done as requested (medium cooked), and the steak is quite ok too.
The chicken with mango on the menu stated that it's make of chicken thigh but it's texture is like chicken breast, dry and rough.
Baked rice with pork chop is so-so only.
I normally love lamb chop but the lamb chop here have a very strong taste, not to my liking.
Anyway after the meal, we still bring out the cake to cut and after we sang the song, the supervisor came forward and said that they will waived off the corkage charge for us.
I really dun understand why they wanna have corkage charge for cake as when customers celebrate their birthday or other occasions, normally it's with a big group so it means more business, what's the point earning just $10 more and pissed off your customers and they will never return to your cafe?

Well, wonder how many will agree with love dog....
Since we are all cheap customers, we should just skip this place and leave it to the expensive customers and not embarass ourselves....
will definitely let all my cheap friends know to avoid this place so the expensive customers can have a better time there...

Yes, the ice water is free.
I agreed with Christine that the selling point there is mainly the view, but at least the food there is slightly better than The mussels guy. I actually wanted to go to Dian Xiao Er initially but when we reach Vivo at 4pm, it was not open for business yet so we settle for the white dog cafe as my dad was very hungry. Regretted!

"Cakage" charge? That's new!
Been there for afternoon tea in June with hubby and kid. We had mediocre cake and cafetaria coffee. Personally I think apart from the great view and cute name there's nothing that great about this place!

Maybe the supervisor think by doing that, he is "giving" ya a $10 discount, and you will feel "great" about it....
So far, all those I've been to, they usually have no problem putting the cake in their fridge, and offered to provide us plates, fork and spoon when we want to cut the cake, and all these for free.
So does this place offer ice water for free?

It was actually the supervisor that tell the staffs to tell my brother that there is corkage charge initially, but dun know later why he change his mind and come to tell us that he will waived off for us.
We did got a $10 voucher but it was because my hubby pay by citibank card, but we may not visit there again cos it will remind me of the unhappiness.

Wow! This is the first time I heard restaurant charging "corkage" fee for cakes!!!
I've been to so many restaurants, from cheap to expensive, never heard of a corkage fee for birthday cakes!
I think the supervisor should offer some form of apology and compensation like a voucher or free dessert on ya next visit, on top of "giving" that waiver. This is absolutely unacceptable!

I'm not crazy about song fish head, but I'm very particular about the food freshness & tastiness, esp for seafood, freshness is very important to me. ^o^

I think their high tea buffet is around $18+++ if not wrong. Unless one eats a lot, else might be cheaper to eat ala carte at yan palace or something.

If ya like song fish head, I think ya should give the one at Albert Street temporary food centre (next to bugis mrt) a try. When I pass by or grab my meals there, I always see old couples ordering the fish head there. :)
As for chinatown, there's so many stalls selling that dish, frankly, I'm not sure which is the best one there though :)
