Uncle Leong Seafood @ Ang Mo Kio Ave 3
How we ended up having dinner here was quite accidental actually... We were looking for the popular crab bee hoon place in amk, but forgot the name and the blk it was at. So while circulating ard ave 3, we saw this restaurant with the crab shells hanging on the wall. We jumped to conclusion that this was the one, since the last time we came to eat I rememebered seeing the shells on the wall...
So anyway, we joined the queue of ard 5 grps of pple and made our order. While we were debating between the crab bee hoon and chilli crab, the waiter strongly recommended the chilli crab, reason being that the bee hoon crab is just special for the soup, whereas the chilli crab was for its crab and chilli. Anyway, we ordered the chilli crab, but now that i think back abt his logic, it doesn't make much sense to me... were we hypnotised at that moment?
Got a table after a while and while sitting down, felt the surrounding looked different.. bf went to explore the opposite block and discovered that there was another seafood restaurant there. Apparently, it was the one we were supposed to go and it has changed. Now it looks like a proper chinese restaurant instead of a kopitiam like Ah Leong's. And the correct one (Mellben Seafood) was even more crowded than Ah Leong's.
Back to our food. Ordered potato leaves which had more stems than leaves. The chilli crab was pretty good with juicy meat, but it is more spicy than any chilli crabs I have ever eaten...perhaps not suitable for pple who can't take spicy food.... the fried man tou was ok...
Bill came up to $40++ including gst, with the crab costing $30.40 (800g i think)... did not try the crab bee hoon so can't comment on that. Won't say that the chili sauce is fantastic, but the meat is pretty good...think the chilli crab at Jackson centre is better...
Did some googling, the owner of this restaurant is the brother of the owner of Mellben Seafood opposite.... geezzzz.....

In Singapore, not too hard to find good dim sum, it is cheap and good that's hard to find...hahaha...
So far, for cheap and good, I think Yan Palace get my vote. :)

I'm not crazy about song fish head, but I'm very particular about the food freshness & tastiness, esp for seafood, freshness is very important to me. ^o^

I think their high tea buffet is around $18+++ if not wrong. Unless one eats a lot, else might be cheaper to eat ala carte at yan palace or something.

If ya like song fish head, I think ya should give the one at Albert Street temporary food centre (next to bugis mrt) a try. When I pass by or grab my meals there, I always see old couples ordering the fish head there. :)
As for chinatown, there's so many stalls selling that dish, frankly, I'm not sure which is the best one there though :)
