The Original Nasi Padang @ River Valley

Posted by CyberTron on Sep 23, 2008 10:35PM
This nasi padang is pretty famous, and at one time, there's actually 2 side by side, which generated some buzz in the newspapers. Not sure where the other has moved to now though, as there's only one left when we were there today.

We ordered 2 chicken, one fried, one sambal, also ordered a sambal prawn, ikan bilis with groundnuts, and one tofu. Inclusive of rice and drinks, the bill came up to $19.50.

Personally, I find the fried chicken a bit dry, which the sambal chicken was pretty nice, same as the ikan bilis. However, the prawn isn't very fresh though, as it taste a bit "soggy".

Overall, find the food here is probably just slightly above average.

My last 2 trips there this year was kinda disappointing as well. First time, somewhere near CNY, a lot of seafood was sold out, even the beer! Thought cos we were there late, so the next time we decided to get there earlier, and this time, the crab where sold out! Service was also very slow and not enuff people to serve the customers. Food wise, I think price is still ok, but I think the food is not longer as good as when it was less well known.... planning to try senibong next round...

Have not been to Jogoya before, but I've been to the Gonbei opposite. Priced similarly to Jogoya if not wrong, and I thought the service and food was pretty good.

I went with 7 adults and 1 kid, we spent less than $120. I would safely hazard a guess of $18 - $25 per person, depending on how hungry you get. Real value for money for quality food.

Is diagonally opposite Jogoya. Supposedly the quality is better than Jogoya. Price wise, if we convert currency, then Malaysia is cheaper. If we do not convert currency, then Singapore is cheaper. Generally, a japanese buffet in Siingapore is around SGD30+ range.
