The French Stall @ Serangoon Road

The first time I tried out the food here was 3 years ago. Liked the place since then, especially for their soup which is neither too creamy nor too watery and taste yummy.

So a few days back, we went there for dinner since we had not been there for quite some time. Ordered the soup of the day which was cauliflower soup, the duck breast and dory fish. We asked for cold water, but realised that water was not free flowing and served in bottles. Weird, it used to be free in the past and it was a glass bottle of water per table sort of thing. So anyway, we ordered ice lemon tea instead. Wrong choice btw, it tasted like it was made from syrup. Think I prefer home made ice lemon tea sold at certain food courts...

Soup was hot and yummy. Waited for a long period for our main courses... When it finally came, I was shocked to see that the duck breast was done medium.....medium duck!!??!? Even suspected that it was not duck but sirloin steak. However, the waiter verified that it was indeed duck, and that they always served it medium. If that was the case, shouldn't the waitress just now asked me how i want it done, just like sirloin etc? Had the waiter took the dish back to the kitchen to have it well-done again. Bloody duck is not very appetising to me.

The dory fish was not bad, pretty soft...duck was not bad too...

For dessert we had the cheese cake, will say it is normal.

Overall, I will say that their service unfortunately has dropped. Gone was the good impression I had of them 3 years ago. Food wise, if you don't mind the service, try out the food which is not bad still.

My last 2 trips there this year was kinda disappointing as well. First time, somewhere near CNY, a lot of seafood was sold out, even the beer! Thought cos we were there late, so the next time we decided to get there earlier, and this time, the crab where sold out! Service was also very slow and not enuff people to serve the customers. Food wise, I think price is still ok, but I think the food is not longer as good as when it was less well known.... planning to try senibong next round...

Have not been to Jogoya before, but I've been to the Gonbei opposite. Priced similarly to Jogoya if not wrong, and I thought the service and food was pretty good.

I went with 7 adults and 1 kid, we spent less than $120. I would safely hazard a guess of $18 - $25 per person, depending on how hungry you get. Real value for money for quality food.

Is diagonally opposite Jogoya. Supposedly the quality is better than Jogoya. Price wise, if we convert currency, then Malaysia is cheaper. If we do not convert currency, then Singapore is cheaper. Generally, a japanese buffet in Siingapore is around SGD30+ range.
