Soon Yee (Klang) Bak Kut Teh 顺意(巴生)肉骨茶

Posted by CyberTron on Jul 28, 2008 9:39PM
As per another member felix teh recommendation, can't wait to check out this place after trying out the Leong Kee Bak Kut Teh over the weekend. I was worried it might be closed today, but luck was on our side, and was a sigh of relief when we saw it was opened. BTW, Leong Kee is closed when we were there.

As recommended, we ordered the dry bak kut teh as well as the normal soup one. We ordered some other side dishes, like bean curd skin, peanut, yu tiao and salted vegetables. Inclusive of drinks the bill came up to $20.20.

The normal soup bak kut teh, I felt Leong Kee was slightly better, but the dry bak kut teh is actually quite good. This is my first time trying dry bak kut teh. The claypot bak kut comes with the usual pork ribs, but also roasted pork, intestines, pig stomach as well as stands of cuttlefish! This is very good, so if you have not try it before, might want to give this a try. The peanut I felt was bigger than the ones we usually get, while the salted vegetables was pretty good, not too salty, except they come in "big" pieces instead of the usually smaller diced ones we get at most bak kut teh stalls.

Overall, the food is pretty good and very good value for money too. So if you have not try dry bak kut teh before, do check it out and let me know if ya like it.

BTW, when I was walking from victoria street towards sultan gate, there's seems to be quite a lot of restaurants near the muscat street there too. Know any good to eat there?

Ok , name to give another lead.., next to Soon Yee is an authentic HockChow coffeeshop, Hockchow are famous for their hockchow fish ball which have mince meat in it, abacus (suan pang zi) and my favorite red wine mee suan.

My personal favorite is their red wine mee suan. Though 1st timer who eat this might end up in the toilet in a short while.

Next is their combo mixed set whereby they have all kinds of ingredients cook with the normal u mee.

Just a work of caution, avoid lunch time as the QC for their dry noodle tends to be different between peak and non peak.

A must for those who never try hockchow cusine

Agreed!!!!! Both Soup & Dry version of the bak kut teh were delicious.
This is my first time ever trying the "Dry" bak kut teh and i loved it.
i think it tastes better than the normal soupy bak kut teh! It would be even more yummy if the dry bak kut teh had some straw mushrooms in it :P

My last 2 trips there this year was kinda disappointing as well. First time, somewhere near CNY, a lot of seafood was sold out, even the beer! Thought cos we were there late, so the next time we decided to get there earlier, and this time, the crab where sold out! Service was also very slow and not enuff people to serve the customers. Food wise, I think price is still ok, but I think the food is not longer as good as when it was less well known.... planning to try senibong next round...

Have not been to Jogoya before, but I've been to the Gonbei opposite. Priced similarly to Jogoya if not wrong, and I thought the service and food was pretty good.

I went with 7 adults and 1 kid, we spent less than $120. I would safely hazard a guess of $18 - $25 per person, depending on how hungry you get. Real value for money for quality food.

Is diagonally opposite Jogoya. Supposedly the quality is better than Jogoya. Price wise, if we convert currency, then Malaysia is cheaper. If we do not convert currency, then Singapore is cheaper. Generally, a japanese buffet in Siingapore is around SGD30+ range.
