Shokudo Japanese Coffee House

Posted by CyberTron on Jul 12, 2008 10:19PM
Actually planned to grab my dinner at the temporary Albert Court Food Centre, but it was pretty pack, so decided to check out what's there to eat at Bugis Junction instead. Decided to give this a try since it was new (not sure when it was opened though). When I arrived, the place was packed, but a table was cleared, and I found my seat immediately. I ordered a Hotate and Mentaiko spaghetti (scallops with cod fish roe), azuki cheese cake (red bean tofu cheese cake with green tea ice cream) and a yuzu ice tea. I found my spaghetti just a slightly on the salty side but still pretty tasty. I pretty enjoyed my dessert and ice tea too. Overall, the service is pretty good, though 2 things I felt they could improve. My dessert was served when I'm 80% done with my spaghetti and the waitress made a mistake and hand the bill meant for the next table to me instead. Though nothing major, so I still rate their service of the waitress there pretty good. BTW, ice water is served free too even without being asked.

This is not really the traditional kind of japanese restaurant. Is more of a fusion restaurant I think. Think of it like a localised "western" restaurant in Japan, so you have pasta, pizza, grills like steak etc in the menu, but japanese style maybe? The plate for the dessert looks nice but is actually plastic! Same goes for the glass for the ice water, which looks like glass but is actually plastic.

Shokudo seems to be opening up a variety of outlets. The yuzu ice tea at the outlet at Raffles City is pretty good too.

I've never been to Chinatown food centre or Albert Street Temporary food centre so can't compare. Yup, it's "song fish head" steam with tau see style, and I love the pork lard on it, very crispy. ^o^

Overall plus the cendol. I like the sauce but the crushed peanuts spoiled it and the fried stuffs too plain.
