Senibong Village Seafood

Posted by CyberTron on Mar 07, 2009 9:54PM
After our last seafood trip to JB last Dec, we have been planning to go back to check out more seafood, and last night, together with another iEatClub member, we headed for JB to this restaurant that was recommended by another member from Malaysia :) . Armed with a GPS, we did not have too much problem finding the place, except part, where around the area was quite a few seafood restaurants. Nevertheless, we did manage to make it there in one piece :)

Compared to Restoran Todak (Orang Asli), this place is less crowded. In fact, on a Friday night, there was just like less than 10 tables occupied. However, the variety of seafood is more here though, but I think is also more pricey as well.

We ordered a garlic steam giant wrasse 苏眉 (RM336, RM42 / 100g). This was supposedly very good, and if not wrong, one of the most expensive fish available, same pricing as the 老鼠斑, and supposedly from sabah. Next we ordered a butter slipper lobster (RM60.50, RM11 / 100g). This is interesting as this is the first time I've seen live slipper lobster (crayfish), as most of the time they are usually dead or frozen ones. Next we ordered 3 bamboo clams (RM48, RM16 per piece). Other than that, we ordered a kai lan (RM12) and fried dried noodle (RM12). Total bills include drinks and tax is RM506.31.

For a start, the food was served pretty fast. After we ordered, while we were still wandering around taking photos at the tanks, before we went back to our table, the bamboo clams were already served. The slipper lobster was quite good, and the bamboo clam turns out pretty "meaty" too. The highlight of the day is defnitely the steam fish. The steam fish did not disappoint, and taste pretty good indeed. The kai lan was just normal, but the fried noodle turns out pretty good as well.

There are so many other seafood we would love to try, but given only 3 of us, we could only just that many. We're probably aiming to go back to try the Alaska crab (2 huge ones alive in the tanks!) and the snow crab as well. The oysters there looks pretty big and yummy. This is also the first time I've seen live top shell too, and they were surprising very "active" in the tank! And not to mention the geoduck there as well. Hoping to organise around 8 - 10 person next time so we can check out other variety there!

Overall, the seafood here could be slightly on the high side, but given what we ordered, we probably might need to pay an arm or leg back home! Welll, looking forward to our next JB seafood trip again!

The last time i went, the manager told me that they charge higher than other restaurants cause they guarantee the quality of the seafood.

My last 2 trips there this year was kinda disappointing as well. First time, somewhere near CNY, a lot of seafood was sold out, even the beer! Thought cos we were there late, so the next time we decided to get there earlier, and this time, the crab where sold out! Service was also very slow and not enuff people to serve the customers. Food wise, I think price is still ok, but I think the food is not longer as good as when it was less well known.... planning to try senibong next round...

Have not been to Jogoya before, but I've been to the Gonbei opposite. Priced similarly to Jogoya if not wrong, and I thought the service and food was pretty good.

I went with 7 adults and 1 kid, we spent less than $120. I would safely hazard a guess of $18 - $25 per person, depending on how hungry you get. Real value for money for quality food.

    Gonbei Fine Japanese Cuisine

Is diagonally opposite Jogoya. Supposedly the quality is better than Jogoya. Price wise, if we convert currency, then Malaysia is cheaper. If we do not convert currency, then Singapore is cheaper. Generally, a japanese buffet in Siingapore is around SGD30+ range.
