Il Piccolo @ Rochor

Posted by CyberTron on Oct 29, 2008 11:32PM
Saw this new italian pizza and pasta place recently opened at the coffee shop where the famous Song Fa bak kut teh is, decided to try it out for lunch today, as I remember my friend reviewed the branch in Toa Payoh before and was supposedly quite decent.

At this little stall, you will be surprised there's actually 18 choices of pizza and 20 choices of pasta to choose from, and another 3 choices of desserts! That's over 40 items on the menu, and one should be able to find something they like there. I think the choices is overwhelming actually.

After going through the menu, I decided to settle for a Buongustaio (dun ask me how to pronounce it... :) ) at $7 and a tiramisu ($3). The pasta portion is not very huge, but should be more than enough for most people. The creme sauce is a little thick, not still ok for me. The amount of chicken and mushroom that came with the pasta was also pretty generous too, so you dun feel like eating kosong spaghetti. Though it is a coffee shop (i'm not sure if because it is off peak hour when I had my lunch), the dessert was actually served later, somewhere when I'm about to finish my pasta. I would expect both to be served together I guess at a coffee shop. As for the tiramisu, personally, I find the cake inside a bit too wet, and the cocoa powder at the top is a bit too thick, so I guess the next time I'm there, I'll probably be giving this a miss or trying another dessert.

Overall, I think I would give this place a 3.5 star for value for money and I'll probably be going back to check out their pizza the next time round. If you ask me paying $6 for the Roc Pizza pizza at Golden Mile food centre, I think I rather pay an extra $1 for the pasta here. So for those around the area, do check this new place out. They actually have other outlets in Toa Payoh, Clementi, Simei etc.

PS. Oh... was also given a pack of tissue too, which came with a pocket size menu and btw, they supposed to do office and home delivery too. Call them at 6339 8995 for their delivery service.

Came here again for dinner as I can't decide what to have. Most of the other pizza here are around $7 for the 7". When I asked what toppings were included in their signature pizza, IL Piccolo, I was told everything, supposed 9 different toppings! So no brainer, since it was only $1 more, and decided to go for it. Decided not to have any dessert this time round.

For a 7", it is decent for most people, except probably for the big eater. For me, it was about just nice. The toppings on the pizza is very generous, with sausages, ham, pineapple, mushroom, etc. I won't say the pizza here is fantastic, but is definitely quite decent. For those who like thick dough like those from pizza hut will be a little disappointed, as it is italian pizza. The cheese on the pizza is very nice too.

Overall, a pretty decent pizza, though I think I should be able to do the 15" one if I'm really hungry :).

My last 2 trips there this year was kinda disappointing as well. First time, somewhere near CNY, a lot of seafood was sold out, even the beer! Thought cos we were there late, so the next time we decided to get there earlier, and this time, the crab where sold out! Service was also very slow and not enuff people to serve the customers. Food wise, I think price is still ok, but I think the food is not longer as good as when it was less well known.... planning to try senibong next round...

Have not been to Jogoya before, but I've been to the Gonbei opposite. Priced similarly to Jogoya if not wrong, and I thought the service and food was pretty good.

I went with 7 adults and 1 kid, we spent less than $120. I would safely hazard a guess of $18 - $25 per person, depending on how hungry you get. Real value for money for quality food.

Is diagonally opposite Jogoya. Supposedly the quality is better than Jogoya. Price wise, if we convert currency, then Malaysia is cheaper. If we do not convert currency, then Singapore is cheaper. Generally, a japanese buffet in Siingapore is around SGD30+ range.
