Located around 10 - 15min walk from Commonwealth MRT, in a laid back HDB estate in Commonwealth, is this Hong Kong Street fish head steamboat eating place. Been here a few months back with my family, and thought the food was pretty decent and reasonably priced, so decided to pop by here for dinner today. When we were there today, there we ample parking lots around.
Anyway, when we were there, we were recommended to try the fish head steamboat. We ordered the ang go li (I think is red snapper ?) fish head steamboat ($20) together with a honey with beer pork ribs ($10).
Food did not take too long before it was served, and they came together. The steamboat was kept heated with charcoal as you can see from the photo.
Food wise, I pretty enjoyed the pork ribs, though my friend felt the pork ribs is too bony. The pork ribs are not the big long pieces one usually get, but was cut into smaller pieces. However, I pretty enjoy the honey beer sauce (hmm...though I dun seem to remember having a bitter taste of beer) :) . As for the steamboat, the soup seems to be like those milky kind you get in fried fish noodle, and I quite enjoy the soup actually. In fact, we finished the soup, and the waitress came over asked if we wanted to top up soup. hahaha... at a moment I thought we were eating bak kut teh.
The total bill came up to $30.90 (50 cents for 1 bowl of rice and 40 cents for the 2 wet tissues). Overall, I think the food deserves a 3.5, not quite a 4 though and pretty reasonably priced too. In fact, for small eaters, what we ordered is probably good for 3.
PS. One thing to add, not sure if is due to weather or it is going to rain, the is quite a few flying ants flying around during the later part of our dinner.

My last 2 trips there this year was kinda disappointing as well. First time, somewhere near CNY, a lot of seafood was sold out, even the beer! Thought cos we were there late, so the next time we decided to get there earlier, and this time, the crab where sold out!
Service was also very slow and not enuff people to serve the customers.
Food wise, I think price is still ok, but I think the food is not longer as good as when it was less well known.... planning to try senibong next round...

Have not been to Jogoya before, but I've been to the Gonbei opposite. Priced similarly to Jogoya if not wrong, and I thought the service and food was pretty good.

I went with 7 adults and 1 kid, we spent less than $120. I would safely hazard a guess of $18 - $25 per person, depending on how hungry you get. Real value for money for quality food.

Is diagonally opposite Jogoya. Supposedly the quality is better than Jogoya. Price wise, if we convert currency, then Malaysia is cheaper. If we do not convert currency, then Singapore is cheaper. Generally, a japanese buffet in Siingapore is around SGD30+ range.
