iEatClub Makan Outing @ KL, 13 June 2009
Our first iEatClub Makan Outing for 2009 is at Hing Ket Grill House. Thanks to Rebecca and her food blogger friends that make this outing a success and I hope everyone enjoyed the food and company that night. We occupied 3 tables, and for our table, there were 6 of us, and our bill for the night came up to RM205.90, which works out to RM35 per pax.
Well, if you have read the recent review posted about this place, you probably know what to expect. We ordered the usual suspect like the grilled lamb, crab, prawn, stingray and sotong. We also ordered a vege and a tapioca noodle. For direct translation, it should be "tapioca flour gluten". Well, to be honest, this is the first time I've tried this in my whole life!
Of all the items, I think my favourite dish of the day is the grilled lamb. It comes with a mint sauce, which I'm not too quite a fan of as I dun like mint. Was told the lamb were imported from New Zealand actually. I believe everyone on our table agreed the lamb does not have the typical lamb "smell".
My next favourite is probably the stingray or sotong. The grilled stingray is definitely not something I've tried before. I'm not sure if this is standard in Malaysia, but in Singapore, the stingray are usually grilled, and the sambal are then pour over it. However, the stingray here is sort of marinated with chilli/sambal and then grilled, so there's no sambal on top, yet it is spicy. The meat is tender and juicy with a bit of crispiness on the grilled surface. What makes the sotong special is actually the sauce that came with it. It looks like some sweet or plum sauce when you look at it, but actually, is some spicy sauce. In fact, is a little potent, but really compliment the sotong very well.
The prawns are grilled with butter if not wrong. Is pretty good in fact, but not something very special. The prawns were pretty fresh as well, and same goes for the crab. The crab is just grilled, and you can taste the sweetness of the crab meat itself, though I'm not sure if Sri Lanka crabs are used instead though. :)
For the tapioca noodle, it is very chewy or springy. I quite enjoyed the texture of this noodle.
Overall, I think everyone on the table were pretty happy with the food and the price as well. We're also given a complimentary fruit platter at the end. I'm not sure if this is standard. BTW, I was told is best to make reservation the day before. So for those who missed this makan outing, check out this place, I'm sure you will not be disappointed!

this place has their speciality sambal beacan. should hv tried their mee goreng mamak style & nasi goreng with sambal belacan. they also add sambal belacan to their fried kuey teow.
the rest of the dishes i believe you have tried & yes...the fruit plate @ d end of the meal is pretty standard. been going to this place on a monthly basis for the last few years.

My last 2 trips there this year was kinda disappointing as well. First time, somewhere near CNY, a lot of seafood was sold out, even the beer! Thought cos we were there late, so the next time we decided to get there earlier, and this time, the crab where sold out!
Service was also very slow and not enuff people to serve the customers.
Food wise, I think price is still ok, but I think the food is not longer as good as when it was less well known.... planning to try senibong next round...

Have not been to Jogoya before, but I've been to the Gonbei opposite. Priced similarly to Jogoya if not wrong, and I thought the service and food was pretty good.

I went with 7 adults and 1 kid, we spent less than $120. I would safely hazard a guess of $18 - $25 per person, depending on how hungry you get. Real value for money for quality food.

Is diagonally opposite Jogoya. Supposedly the quality is better than Jogoya. Price wise, if we convert currency, then Malaysia is cheaper. If we do not convert currency, then Singapore is cheaper. Generally, a japanese buffet in Siingapore is around SGD30+ range.
