Abalone Bak Kut Teh anyone?
Ok, I did not strike the lottery today, and neither did I try out the abalone bak kut teh though. But if you feel rich and feeling like checking this out, is $60 for half a can of abalone, and $120 for a can of abalone bak kut teh. So how good is the abalone bak kut teh, I guess I've to leave that to you all to tell me about it :)
Decided to head down to this place for lunch today. This is just one street away from the famous bak kut teh at Rangoon Road. Given this place gives one a laid back feeling, you will be surprise 2 bak kut teh stalls can survive here for so long, and both have their own group of loyal followers.
When I was there, the place was pretty crowded, but no queue though, and manage to find a seat immediately. I ordered a bak kut teh and a plate of pig intestine. Total bill inclusive of rice and pepsi was $9.50.
So how's the bak kut teh here? Well, if you are looking for peppery or klang herbal style bak kut teh, you will be disappointed. The bak kut teh taste like what you commonly get. Instead, you have a bak kut teh in a clear herbal soup. More like double boiled herbal soup with pork ribs? So if you go there without a mindset what bak kut teh should be like, the bak kut teh here is indeed very unique and I must say, pretty good too. Personally, I like the pig intestine even more :). I also noticed a lot of people ordering the steam fish there, which I saw seems very yummy too. But since I'm alone for lunch today, can't order too much though.
Overall, if you are looking for something different, you might want to check out the bak kut teh here. I will give this a 3.5 star. So try out this place and let me know if you like it. :)
PS . Saw an ang mo taking photos of the place after his meal there and he gave the uncle a thumbs up before he left! hahahaah... so not only the locals enjoy bak kut teh :)

Hmmm..The soup was quite nice & special . However, the auntie was quite stingy for the refill of the soup and note that the refill soup was different from the original soup :(

heh...finally manage to come here to try out the fish today. Uploaded more photos. The fish looks pretty plain from outside, but I find it taste pretty good though. The pig trotters is not the whole piece kind, but rather, already chopped into smaller pieces. Is not those soft and tender kind.

My last 2 trips there this year was kinda disappointing as well. First time, somewhere near CNY, a lot of seafood was sold out, even the beer! Thought cos we were there late, so the next time we decided to get there earlier, and this time, the crab where sold out!
Service was also very slow and not enuff people to serve the customers.
Food wise, I think price is still ok, but I think the food is not longer as good as when it was less well known.... planning to try senibong next round...

Have not been to Jogoya before, but I've been to the Gonbei opposite. Priced similarly to Jogoya if not wrong, and I thought the service and food was pretty good.

I went with 7 adults and 1 kid, we spent less than $120. I would safely hazard a guess of $18 - $25 per person, depending on how hungry you get. Real value for money for quality food.

Is diagonally opposite Jogoya. Supposedly the quality is better than Jogoya. Price wise, if we convert currency, then Malaysia is cheaper. If we do not convert currency, then Singapore is cheaper. Generally, a japanese buffet in Siingapore is around SGD30+ range.
