Pass by this place on our way back from lunch today, and saw this sign on top that says $6.50 for Fish and Chips. Actually, the last time when we went to Le Chasseur 乐食轩, which is located just beside, my friend wanted to check out this place some day.
As my friend today just wanted to just spend $10 for dinner today, decided to check out this place. Was a bit skeptical at first, thinking it might be just $6.50 to just top up for soup of the day or drins, cos $6.50 for a fish and chips is probably like hawker centre price? A chicken chop at hawker centre would easily cost $4.50 in a neighbourhood hawker centre, while probably more especially in town area.
When we were arrived, the place is still quite "empty" but seems most of the tables were reserved. However, the waitress gave us one of the reserved table immediately when we were there. But very soon, the whole restaurant was pretty filled up quickly.
So when we were there, indeed the fish and chips (dory) is only $6.50 which my friend ordered, which included a decently large piece of dory and a choice of fries or chips. On the menu, it also explains the difference in fries and chips, so I'll leave it to your all to find out and let me know which ya prefer :)
I ordered another set (think was sole fish or something). I knew it was not cod (my original choice but was sold out) and not the halibut (as I overhead them telling the customer in front this has the strongest fishier taste). Mine was $14, which came with 2 pieces of the fish and also a choice of fries or chips. I also a deep friend mushroom ($10.50) to share. There's no GST, service charge, etc, so we paid $31 for all the 3 items we ordered.
Food wise, I find the dory fish and chip is really good value for money, while mine and the mushroom was quite ok for the price. All the 3 of us preferred the chips more than the fries. Though the chips was not crispy and looks pretty soggy or oily, I actually quite enjoy it :P The deep fried mushroom was not bad too.
Overall, I think the food here given the price (especially the dory fish and chips) deserves a 3.5 star.

I really think the dory fish and chips is super cheap ( consider the serving was quite big, i cant finish them ). But next time if i go, i shall sit outside of the restaurant as the air ventilation inside the restaurant not that good. After the dinner, got strong oily smell on our clothes & face :(

My last 2 trips there this year was kinda disappointing as well. First time, somewhere near CNY, a lot of seafood was sold out, even the beer! Thought cos we were there late, so the next time we decided to get there earlier, and this time, the crab where sold out!
Service was also very slow and not enuff people to serve the customers.
Food wise, I think price is still ok, but I think the food is not longer as good as when it was less well known.... planning to try senibong next round...

Have not been to Jogoya before, but I've been to the Gonbei opposite. Priced similarly to Jogoya if not wrong, and I thought the service and food was pretty good.

I went with 7 adults and 1 kid, we spent less than $120. I would safely hazard a guess of $18 - $25 per person, depending on how hungry you get. Real value for money for quality food.

Is diagonally opposite Jogoya. Supposedly the quality is better than Jogoya. Price wise, if we convert currency, then Malaysia is cheaper. If we do not convert currency, then Singapore is cheaper. Generally, a japanese buffet in Siingapore is around SGD30+ range.
