Crystal Jade Kitchen @ Holland Village

Posted by CyberTron on Nov 21, 2008 4:11AM
Actually, we wanted to try out the steamboat buffet supposedly at the Crystal Jade at Holland Village. There's actually 2 Crystal Jade there, and the one with the steamboat buffet is at the La Mian Xiao Long Bao, and not at this. However, when we were there around 8+, was told the place was already full, so we decided to head to this place which is just beside.

There's was a short queue when we were there, but it did not take quite long when we got a table. However, after we got our seat, we have problem getting the waitress attention that we had to self service to get our own menu from the counter instead.

Ordered their crispy chicken (half at $6.80), assorted mushroom with vegetables and gluten ($12.50) and a sichuan hot and sour soup ($7.20). Total bill inclusive of rice and tea came up to $36.60.

Though the service isn't that great here, but the food did not take that long to be served though. The mushroom vege was pretty nice, and portion was decent too. The crispy chicken is abit disappointing. The chicken itself was crispy and hot, however, the crumbs where actually cold and seems to have been fried and left there for a long time. If the crumbs were actually hot and crispy, it would be pretty good. The spicy and sour soup was ok, but portion seems a bit small for $7.20 though. Seems like a portion for just a single person. Compare to half a chicken at only $6.80, the price for the soup seems to be a bit off though.

Overall, the food is average, though the chicken was kind of disappointing, and price is just average. Service here could definitely be improved.

I've never been to Chinatown food centre or Albert Street Temporary food centre so can't compare. Yup, it's "song fish head" steam with tau see style, and I love the pork lard on it, very crispy. ^o^

Overall plus the cendol. I like the sauce but the crushed peanuts spoiled it and the fried stuffs too plain.
