Charco @ AMK ave 5

Read abt this place on the "I" magazine, did some googling, and found out that Charco is like kenny roger in a neighbourhood kopitiam, the same style but at a cheaper price... and its location used to be where botak jones was!

So we went to check it out. Indeed, it does resembles Kenny Roger with its range of side dishes which can be served with 1/4,1/2 or whole chicken. Get to choose up to 3 side dishes, no muffins though. It happend to be Monday and there was this promotion where you can get 2 sets of 1/4 chickens+3 sides at $15.90 instead of the usual $17, so we ordered that.

I ordered the egg salad, greek salad (tomatoes, chilli peppers and cucumbers) and potato salad, whereas bf ordered chicken avocado (sliced chicken in avocado sauce), potato salad and cole slaw. Out of all the sides, I liked the egg salad and potato salad. Generous serving too, too much for me though. As for the chicken, eventhough the meat is tender and not dry, it doesn't feel tasty...it was like the sauce is just at the skin and did not penetrate to the meat. Still prefer kenny roger's chicken. But at the price we are paying for this, guess it is still pretty worth it. I guess the next time we will just order 1 set and then order another burger or that kebah-whatever...6 sides are too much for us :P

My last 2 trips there this year was kinda disappointing as well. First time, somewhere near CNY, a lot of seafood was sold out, even the beer! Thought cos we were there late, so the next time we decided to get there earlier, and this time, the crab where sold out! Service was also very slow and not enuff people to serve the customers. Food wise, I think price is still ok, but I think the food is not longer as good as when it was less well known.... planning to try senibong next round...

Have not been to Jogoya before, but I've been to the Gonbei opposite. Priced similarly to Jogoya if not wrong, and I thought the service and food was pretty good.

I went with 7 adults and 1 kid, we spent less than $120. I would safely hazard a guess of $18 - $25 per person, depending on how hungry you get. Real value for money for quality food.

Is diagonally opposite Jogoya. Supposedly the quality is better than Jogoya. Price wise, if we convert currency, then Malaysia is cheaper. If we do not convert currency, then Singapore is cheaper. Generally, a japanese buffet in Siingapore is around SGD30+ range.
