A friend recommended me the char kway teow here is good when I told her I went to the Sin Kee chicken rice the other day. So off we went to check out this famous char kway teow stall today.
Though there's more than 1 char kway teow stall at this hawker center, one will easily know the right one from the queue at the stall. At anytime, there's no less than 10 person queue, average around 10 - 15 people queuing. There's only the uncle there who takes the order, fry the kway teow, pack them and collect money. Even when the queue is long, uncle still patiently take down the orders and fry them plate by plate. Uncle doesn't seems to cook in large quantity each time. I think probably just 2 - 4 plate each time if not wrong. When my friend ordered just kway teow without noodle, uncle gladly obliged as well.
I think we waited for around 45min or more for our two plates of char kway teow. So was it worth the wait? Well, I think the char kway teow is definitely better than the one at Old Airport Road. And the amount of cockles given was also generious. The best of all, it comes with big pieces of crispy lard, which makes this char kway teow wonderful.
So if you are planning to queue for the char kway teow here, do bring along a book or psp, and be prepared to smell like char kway teow after queuing there for like 45min. :)

Was at a meeting near Tanjong Pagar yesterday, and decided to pop by Maxwell Road Food Centre for my dinner after that. After wallking round the place twice, I decided to just settle for the char kway teow at this stall.
The stall supposed to have won some awards based on the photos and awards on the outside of the stall. The char kway teow comes in $3/4/5. Decided to just settle for a $4 one this time though.
Overall, portion wise is normal, and I find the char kway teow here is just average. I also find it a little too salty for my taste though.

This char kway teow is supposedly to be highly recommended. As I was there for lunch, decided to check out this stall. When I was there around lunch time, was told by the auntie the waiting time is 20min. So for those who are there the first time, dun be fool when you see there's no queue in front of the stall.
Anyway, aftter waiting for 20min, I finally got my $3 plate of char kway teow. Overall, portion is normal, not very big, considering I've ordered the larger portion. Other than the usual cockles and bean sprout, the char kway teow comes with small pieces of lard too, but not a lot.
Overall, the char kway teow here is above average, probably worth a 3.5 star, but personally, do not really justify for the 20min waiting time thougn.

This is my favourite char koay teow @ Penang. The stall used to be located @ Lorong selamat, but now move to a coffee shop opposite Honolulu Café which previously is Federal Cinema (Lian Bang Cinema).
The stalls open from morning till afternoon around 3pm..and be prepare to wait as the queue is always long. The regular char koay teow cost RM4.50 per plate (got two big prawns) where as the special char koay teow cost RM8 per plate (got 4 big prawns and 2-3 pieces of mantis prawns).
We ordered 1 regular one with duck egg (Additional 50 cents for this) and 1 special one. Hmmm..i must say the price is a bit expensive as the serving is quite small..but i feel is worth it as the prawn is really huge!!
If you happen to be in Penang or visit Penang, dun forget try this!! A must try if u loves Penang fried koay teow!

My second char kway teow for the week. I guess by just looking at the photos, those char kway teow fan would already guess where this is. Yes, if you have not guess it, it is the famous char kway teow at Golden Mile Food Centre.
This char kway teow is for all heath conscious foodies out there! At the stall, it states there's no pork (means no lup cheong!!!) ,no lard (for those lard fans will be disappointed :P ) and use minimal vegetable oil. And to top it all, or make ya feel less sinful after eating ya char kway teow, it comes with lots of vegetables on top. :) To make up for the missing lup cheong and lard, it comes sprinkled with some small fried anchovies :) .
The char kway teow comes in either $3/4, and option to add additional cockles, etc for 50 cents per item. I ordered the $4 portion (obviously :P) but was too late to add additional cockles when I noticed the little sign on the stall.
So how does char kway teow without lup cheong, lard taste? Frankly, I pretty enjoy it, probably I enjoy eating my greens. In fact, if given a choice between the Zion Road and this, I actually prefer this. Overall, I will give this also a 3.5 star, and 4 star if you consider it is better for my health (i think :P).

I guess this char kway teow stall does not need much introduction. By the time we were there around 7pm on a Monday evening, there's already a queue of around 4 - 5 people there waiting for their char kway teow. hmm... interesting similarity I noticed, the uncle here and the one famous "lao fu zi" one at Old Airport Road both listen to music when they fry their kway teow! hahahaaha.... except the uncle here listens to hokkien song while he cooks :)
Frankly, I think this is the first time I eat the char kway teow at this place, cos most of the time I'm here, I always go eat the prawn noodle instead. But since the prawn noodle was closed today, decided to check this out today.
So was the queue worth the wait? Actually, the queue wasn's that long, probably just 5 - 10min? I've ordered the $5 portion today, and the portion was pretty big with lots of cockeles too. Overall, the char kway teow here is pretty good, and not too sweet too and definitely deserve a 3.5 star, though I'm not too sure giving it a 4 though. The char kway teow also comes with lard, but not that much though. So if you are a healthy person, you might want to take note.
PS. For those who drive, I would suggest trying to park at Great World City and walk across the road especially on weekends as I remember the car park behind is not that big and usually full.

Located diagonally opposite the famous Lao Fu Zi char kway teow which have lots of people queuing all the time, this place usually do not have a queue, but also serve their char kway teow on the brown leave that is used to pack take away. There's supposedly a char mee pok, but was sold out, so I went for the normal $4 char kway teow (comes in $3/4/5).
The portion seems similar to the $5 one I ordered at Lao Fu Zi last week, except they do not have the fried lard and maybe 1 - 2 prawn less. Taste well, I feel it is pretty similar or equally good to me.
So if you dun want to wait for the long queue at Lao Fu Zi, and not a fan of fried lard, give this a try and let me know if there's really huge difference.

Came here for lunch today. Walk around the whole old airport food centre, can't decide what to eat, so decided to have the char kway teow instead. hmm... eaten here quite a coupple of times, but been awhile since I last came here. Anyway, there's something new today I noticed was they start offering fried lard to the char kway teow now! hmm... Anyway, I ordered a $5 serving and i can't say it was really a huge plate though. It came with 2 prawns and ya usual dried chinese sausages, cockles, etc. Though the fried lard was a nice addition, I feel it would be nicer (not for the health conscious) if they are bigger and chunkier :). Overall, the char kway teow here is pretty good though I find it a little on the sweet side.

My last 2 trips there this year was kinda disappointing as well. First time, somewhere near CNY, a lot of seafood was sold out, even the beer! Thought cos we were there late, so the next time we decided to get there earlier, and this time, the crab where sold out!
Service was also very slow and not enuff people to serve the customers.
Food wise, I think price is still ok, but I think the food is not longer as good as when it was less well known.... planning to try senibong next round...

Have not been to Jogoya before, but I've been to the Gonbei opposite. Priced similarly to Jogoya if not wrong, and I thought the service and food was pretty good.

I went with 7 adults and 1 kid, we spent less than $120. I would safely hazard a guess of $18 - $25 per person, depending on how hungry you get. Real value for money for quality food.

Is diagonally opposite Jogoya. Supposedly the quality is better than Jogoya. Price wise, if we convert currency, then Malaysia is cheaper. If we do not convert currency, then Singapore is cheaper. Generally, a japanese buffet in Siingapore is around SGD30+ range.
