This is another tip off from fellow member Felix Teh, who had recommended me the 2 bak kut teh at Sultan Gate previously. Located at B2 inside Takashimaya Shopping Centre, where the lifts are, it was not packed when we were there for dinner, but compare to the rest of the eatery around that area, it seems to have the most people though. I guess it is a slow weekday evening, cos even taka was not that crowded when we were there.
As this was supposedly slightly better than the Pasta Cafe, which is at the other side of Ngee Ann City, I ordered the slipper lobster (crayfish) pasta ($13.80) and top up $3.90 for a soup (clam chowder) and garlic bread, while my colleague ordered a chicken bake rice ($10.80) and top up $4.50 for a dessert (brownie) and drink. We also ordered an extra cheese stick ($4.50) to share.
My slipper lobster pasta came with tomato sauce, and came with 3 halves of crayfish. Sauce wise, I would prefer the one at Pasta Cafe, which is a cross btw creme and tomato sauce. Portion wise, Pasta Cafe seems bigger too. Pasta Cafe came with more clayfish, at $17.90, but there's service charge, which Ambush do not charge. So price wise. I would say both are comparable. The clam chowder soup was not bad (dun give you are drinking can campbell soup) and the garlic bread is pretty good. Normally, the garlic bread we usually get is hard toasted ones, while this one is actually soft, and it was quite a big slice too. Tried my colleagues's bake rice, which is not bad, and the fried chicken (chicken karage) is pretty tender too. The cheese sticks was also pretty good, but we were felt abit "cheated" when the picture at the stall seems to be much larger than what we actually got. hahahaaha... Finally the dessert, even though the brownie was supposedly warmed up, but it was not really that warm we wanted it to be, but is still pretty good, and I love chocolates anyway :).
Overall, I think the food here is all pretty good, though I would expect the price to be slightly cheaper than Pasta Cafe, which turns out more or less the same.
So if you are in Taka the next time, do give both a try and let me know which ya prefer :)

The paella at Ambush Takashimaya was not what I expected. Maybe it is Singapore-style for paella in the west is not tomato-based and hence tastes and looks different being of a yellow/orange hue. One piece of mussels had shrunk and was not fresh. Maybe they should just stick to Italian cuisine.

Hehe, garlic bread is a sure winner for this place. I like their Oligo Oligo, not too oily and the pasta always come out al dente...

I got small pieces of clam in my clam chowder, not big pieces though. As for the crayfish, both this and Pasta Cafe, the clayfish aren't very big, and the meat is just so so...but I tot it was slightly (very slight) better than the crayfish in my seafood pasta at Pasta Cafe the previous week.

I had the slipper lobster, but mine didn't seem that fresh. Could tell that the meat wasn't as succulent as I wished it would be. The clam chowder taste good, but didn't really eat any clam or maybe it's because it's too small. But garlic bread is superb because it's done on a foccacia bread....very delicious!

I've never been to Chinatown food centre or Albert Street Temporary food centre so can't compare. Yup, it's "song fish head" steam with tau see style, and I love the pork lard on it, very crispy. ^o^

How is the fish steam head compared to the ones at Chinatown food centre or there's another stall in Albert Street Temporary food centre? The steam fish head is "song fish head" steam with tau see style?

Overall plus the cendol. I like the sauce but the crushed peanuts spoiled it and the fried stuffs too plain.
